The Polish national team has a new manager. It is 68-year-old Fernando Santos, who won the European Championship with Portugal in 2016. The news about the coach’s employment was confirmed on Twitter by the president of PZPN (Polish FA – ed.) , Cezary Kulesza.
For the last few weeks, there has been speculation about who will be the new head coach of the national team. On Monday, January 23, everything became clear. The former European champion with the Portuguese national team in 2016 was photographed after arriving at Warsaw’s Okęcie by the Sport.pl portal. According to his information, Santos immediately went to meet Cezary Kulesza, president of the Polish Football Association.
A few hours later, the president of PZPN presented the happy news. 68-year-old Santos will be the new manager of the White-Reds. His main task is to qualify for the European Championship in 2024.
Cezary Kulesza was searching for a manager with rich experience and this is undoubtedly Santos. The 68-year-old won the European Championship with Portugal in 2016, reached the quarter-finals of Euro 2012 and the round of 16 of the 2014 World Cup with Greece, and won the Portuguese Championship with FC Porto.
The president of the Polish Football Association will officially present the new coach at a press conference on Tuesday, which will start at 1:00 p.m. at PGE Narodowy in Warsaw.
