– There are no abuses in the use of surveillance in Polish secret services. A significant part of the information that is in the public space is completely untrue information, said the head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration, Minister-Coordinator of Secret Services Mariusz Kamiński.

– I want to reassure the public opinion and I emphasize once again: there are no abuses in the use of surveillance in the Polish secret services – Kamiński told journalists in the Sejm.

He also referred to the extraordinary committee for surveillance in the Senate. – I’m not afraid of any commission. What I fear is that in such a difficult international environment related to threats to Poland’s security, there is now a political attack on Polish secret services, he said.

Mariusz Kamiński

– A significant part of the information that is in the public space is completely untrue information – he assured.

– I emphasize once again that the Polish services operate legally and there are no abuses in this respect. I presented my position in an extensive letter sent to the Senate – added Kamiński.

The minister also pointed out that “in such matters one should behave in a completely responsible, calm manner, not succumb to emotions, not succumb to any fake news”.

– We really have so many threats to our country’s security, including external threats, that building political scenarios – and the opposition builds certain political scenarios – really aggressive, so dangerous for our country is a measure of irresponsibility, said Kamiński.

The Pegasus-gate

Cases of illegal surveillance using the Pegasus software since mid-January are being investigated by the Senate’s emergency committee, which, however, has no prosecution powers. Apart from Kamiński, the current head of the CBA, Andrzej Stróżny, and the former head of this service, Ernest Bejda, refused to participate in the committee meetings.

On Wednesday, the commission hears attorney Roman Giertych, as well as retired judge of the Constitutional Tribunal, former chairman of the PKW, Wojciech Hermeliński.

The establishment of the Senate committee follows the findings of the Citizen Lab group operating at the University of Toronto. It stated that using the Pegasus software developed by the Israeli company NSO Group, attorney Roman Giertych, prosecutor Ewa Wrzosek and KO senator Krzysztof Brejza were under surveillance. The politician’s phone was supposed to be hacked 33 times in the period from April 26, 2019 to October 23, 2019, when he was the chief of the election campaign of the KO before the parliamentary elections.

On Tuesday , the AP agency informed about another two Poles who, according to Citizen Lab, were to be spied on with Pegasus – it was Kołodziejczak and Tomasz Szwejgiert , co-author of the book about the head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration, former head of the CBA Mariusz Kamiński. According to Citizen Lab, both situations took place in 2019 – Kołodziejczak was to be hacked several times in May this year, and Szwejgiert – 21 times from the end of March to June.
